While showroom sales and piano tunings are the
lifeblood of our business, what really makes us
special is our rebuilding shop. Our master
craftsmen take an old, worn out piano and tear it
down to rebuild it anew ready for your family to
cherish for another century. At left, Brian is
carving a new rock maple bridge cap on an 1890
rosewood Victorian Knabe concert grand. If you've
been searching for a piano that stands apart from
the rest, we suggest considering a rebuilt vintage
piano from Reifsnyder's.

In this photo Jeff, our shop foreman is graining
a custom made poplar bench to match the Brazilian
rosewood on the antique Knabe piano. Next the piano
and bench will get several coats of lacquer, sanded
between each coat then hand-rubbed to a satin sheen
and finally polished to a deep luster.

Here is Luis applying a coat of nitrocellulose
lacquer to a 1920's vintage mahogany Art Deco
Steinway model M grand. Finish is applied in our
state-of-the-art Italian made spray booth complete
with a high tech fire suppressant system just in
case. And while our exhaust system is certified for
use with polyester materials like found on modern
Asian and European pianos, the overwhelming
majority of our customers prefer the natural look
of lacquer to the synthetic polymer finishes.
Besides someone may want to rebuild this piano
again in another 100 years or so.

|
And Luis once again, this time sanding the lid
for the Steinway in the previous photo. The
refinishing process is 10% lacquer and 90% sanding
and rubbing. It's a lot of hard work but anyone who
owns one of our restorations will tell you the
results are worth the effort. The special sander
he's using is a recent addition to our shop
allowing us to reduce labor with superior results
on the large flat surfaces although all the fine
detail work still has to be sanded by hand for best
results.
